Hi Everybody,
Trust you all are in good health... I had been to JoAnns the other day and found a very cute flannel sheet set totally suited for a newborn ! It had the words Tiny feet, precious angel etc... on it and I immediately had to have it ... Now if I were to gift that to someone as a receiving blanket it wouldn't be that great, just a piece of fabric with the edges sewn, so I decided to jazz it up a bit...

I lined the wrong side with some lightweight cotton fabric and crocheted the edges with a pompom yarn and it turned out wonderful!!! The only thing was that it took me ages to crochet on the border and my skip stitch blade didnt work as it was supposed to and I ended up having to pierce holes with my stitch remover as I crocheted along and this took me ages to complete! So what was intended to be a fun easy project turned out to be so time consuming! But in the end it was really worth it and I loved the end result... Here are some pics to show u how it turned out...

I am back to crochet a few things and taking a break from knitting for now... I created a cardi for my daughter... Here are the pics of the cardi modeled by my daughter.... The pattern is available on the lion brand website.. I used a different yarn (Rhythm jojoland) and increased the bottom to 8 repeats instead of 4... I also designed the frog closure that I will be writing out the pattern for soon...So stay tuned if you are interested in that!

Hi people, please don't think I am MIA....I just had a baby a couple of weeks back and am suffering the sleepless nights syndrome that accompanies a new born....I have been knitting as well as writing up patterns but haven't been able to finish anything.... Will get around to finishing projects when sanity returns :)....whenever that maybe...

Monday, April 2, 2012

Hello People,
I am back again!!! I have been working on a really long project that has taken me so long and I am not even done yet... Its a baby blanket that I designed.... I used the entrelac technique as I am so intrigued by that and I also created a fun pattern on the squares to make it more interesting and ofcourse with color change too! So all these techniques are fun and make this blanket a really fun project...

In the process I also learnt to knit backwards using the continental style...This makes things a little quicker as I constantly dont have to keep turning my work back and forth... Check out my work in progress....

Let me know what you guys think... Once I finish making this blanket I will write out tutorials for entrelac knitting as well as other techniques I used...
By the time you are done with this blanket, you will be an expert in the following -

1. knitting and purling ofcourse
2. Picking up stitches both knit and purl sides
3. increasing stitches (making stitches on purl side or knit side)
4. making bobbles
5. reading lace chart
6. Joining colors
7. Entrelac knitting cause thats what all these techniques lead to in the end!!

One blanket and you can become an intermediate knitter!

Well hello people! I have been so hard at work knitting so many things that I didnt blog about it and thought it was high time I did....

I made a leaf lace blanket for my baby to come.... I used the pattern I found on ravelry... I used a mixed colored yarn that I think does not do justice to the pattern but it still looks good never the less...

I also designed a hat that I saw online by another designer... It was so close to a design that I was working on that I just made a small diversion and recreated the other design... I haven't written out the pattern for that out yet though... Thats on my todo list... Here are pics of the hat....

I am working on a scarf, whose design I got from the internet... I really like the pattern and cant wait to finish it and block it. I am waiting to finish it soon!!! :)... Here are some pics of the progress I have made so far!

Things have been a little crazy around here... The weather has been a little harsh so any good sunlight we get, I have been trying to sneak out... In the meanwhile I have been knitting a few patterns from the web for a friend who is leaving the country and another friend's baby....

I am also working on a design for a baby blanket... I looked at a number of patterns on the web by other designers which are either too time consuming or too easy... I want a pattern that easy to knit but at the same time that looks like I have been slogging on it :).... Now is that even possible? We'll know soon enough I hope :)... Will keep you all posted!

Monday, February 6, 2012

A few days back I modified my butterfly hat pattern to create a new design. I have written the pattern for this hat which is also designed for a newborn and I call it "The baby hat diamond pattern". It is again a very simple and easy beginner project that you can finish in a day or couple at the most.... A picture of the actual hat is attached below. I need to take more pictures and am on the lookout for a baby real model. :)... In the meanwhile please enjoy this pattern and let me know if you have any questions as you knit along!!!

The pattern for the diamond baby hat can be found here!

I made a couple of more hats to gift to a friend who is expecting her first baby and its a girl... I picked a pattern off the internet and am really happy with the way the hat turned out that I made a second for my future bundle of joy :)... Here are pics of the 2 hats...

I purchased a cowl pattern on ravelry that I had to have even though I felt it was a bit pricey... The design detail looked amazing and I thought it was worth it....

After several attempts at starting the project correctly I finally am on my way... The yarn I am using is Smooshy (Dream in color)... So far though I can see the stitch pattern develop, it does not look great and I think blocking it in the end will do the trick... here is a peak at my wip!!!

Friday, January 27, 2012

I finished the triangular shawl that I was working on and now it just needs to be blocked... In the meanwhile I came across the "flared lace smoke ring" pattern by Jackie Ericsson and I had to buy it... Its so pretty and I have to decide what yarn and color I am going to use for it... I hope I find time to make it soon!!!
I decided to take a break from knitting and crochet something for a change... I want to make a shawl I found at the cascade yarns website for free.. So I might just start working on that and get back to my knitting projects once that is done....

Will keep you all posted with pics for updates for sure :)!

Tuesday, January 24, 2012

I started making a triangular lace shawl yest from a knitting pattern I found on the web... I did tweak it a little bit to add a few more lines... Also I am adding a contrasting border... The scarf is a little complex and requires a lot of focus so that you dont mess with the stitch count ... I had to redo a line in the pattern as I had missed a stitch... so no messing with this pattern!!! :)...

Here is the pic of my shawl thats WIP!

So I added an accent flower using lavender colored yarn. I used crochet to create the flower and the pattern for it can be found in the link below the picture... Its a very basic flower but it does add a nice dimension to the scarf!!! Here is the pic of the scarf with the flower attached to it!

The pattern for the flower can be found here.....
Do let me know if you have any difficulty making this flower and I can definitely help you with that!

Today I made a scarf with pom-pom bunny tail yarn by loops and threads.... I had a choice between knitting and crocheting the yarn but I decided to knit it instead as I liked the flowy feel that it gave vs the tight knit feeling of the crochet....
I cast on 7 stitches using backward loop cast on and knit 59 rows. I knit only 6 of those stitches and used the 7th stitch to secure the yarn. I used size 8 knitting needles and then cast off using a tapestry needle and the following technique...
  1. Using the sewing needle, pass through first 2 stitches on the needle as if to purl, pull the yarn through with the pom-poms,
  2. Enter the first needle as if to knit and slip off first stitch from needle, making sure to stretch the yarn as you do so that the bind off lays flat..
Repeat steps 1& 2 through out till you have only 1 stitch left on ur needle and purl through that stitch and slip off… Secure the loose end by weaving in between stitches slowly as you have to tug to get the pom-poms through as well… cut yarn…
Hope this helps… please feel free to buzz me if you have any questions about this….
Here are the pics of the scarf...

So I finally am done with the baby hat that I was working on... I am going to get to writing a pattern for this one as well... This uses the yarn that I purchased a couple of days back, the "Cascade Pastaza"

Pattern for New born butterfly hat can be found here........

I used size 9 (5.5 mm) knitting needles with a German/Norwegian cast on...The only cast on I would trust for a ribbing especially for a hat....
I created the butterfly pattern for this design and will make the chart available as part of my pattern... I am also working on setting up a camera so that I can post some tutorials to help with the making of this simple hat so that many of you can join me as I knit and I can share my knowledge... I made this hat for a New born and think the size should be good... I would also like to work on a toddler size so that both my kids can be seen in similar hats :)... But thats WIP.....

Here are the pics of the completed hat... Enjoy and feel free to post any comments....

Hi People,
I know I promised a pic of the yarn I bought yesterday, but I have something better!!! I started making a hat for my upcoming little one and here is the pic of the same....
I will write out the pattern for this soon and post it online so many of u can work it as well... Since we are expecting a girl, I made this hat with an off white yarn and pink butterflies on it... Its really basic and simple and can be your first hat project!!!
I also experimented with a new type of cast on called the twisted long tail cast on or the German/Norwegian cast on... its easy to do but took sometime as this was the first time I used it ....

Saturday, January 7, 2012

Hi People,
Today I went to the yarn store hoping some yarn will call out my name in the hope of creating more inspiration.... Unfortunately I didnt like any....

But I did happen to pick up 2 balls of
Cascade Pastaza yarn
50% Llama, 50% wool

Each ball has a weight of 100 gms and 132 yards, I am not sure how much of that yarn I would need. I plan to design a hat for my daughter with a new fair isle pattern that I have in mind....

Here are pics of the yarn!!!

Stay tuned for pics of the project once I start it... I will be posting updates regularly!

Baby blanket (crochet pattern)

I made a baby blanket for the upcoming new bundle of joy due in April :)...  ..... Here are some of the pics....

I have written the pattern for this in American crochet terms.....I used a yarn of varying thickness across that gave this pattern a very interesting look... I used the Reynolds hopscotch yarn that I purchased online @ WEBS.....  You can download the pattern here.....

Let me know if you have any questions or comments!
